Kids kept warm and cosy this winter at Little Rays Nursery thanks to brites Fermanagh based company Balcas, has added a Co. Down based nursery school to their ever growing portfolio of brites clients. Family owned Little Rays Nursery in Moira is the first nursery school in Ireland to choose eco friendly brites as their preferred fuel supplier, having recently had a 45kW Dor wood pellet boiler installed by Green Energy Technology Ltd. This move is set to help the company make substantial savings of up to £750 a year on their fuel bills. Little Rays, currently employs 15 full-time and 11 part-time staff who are responsible for the care of 86 children. The company is committed to reducing their carbon footprint and are using brites to provide the heating and hot water for their nursery. In addition to saving on their fuel bills, by burning 15 tonnes of brites instead of 7,500 litres of oil, Little Rays will also be offsetting 18 tonnes of C02 and 4.9 tonnes of carbon annually. Kieron Rea, owner, Little Rays Nursery, commented: “It is our aim at Little Rays to provide a homely, relaxed atmosphere where children can learn through play and have great fun at the same time. We continually look at ways of improving our service and the environment for the children we care for on a daily basis.” “The decision to install a wood pellet boiler to heat the day nursery in Moria previously came about when we started to refurbish the building. This was a large, cold building and we knew that updating the heating system was a priority. We are very conscious of the enviroment and so renewable technology was the only option we would consider.” “This year we are working on a large extension which will give the nursery a second floor and the capicity for 110 children, so our energy bills will also be increasing greatly and brites will help us to save some money on these costs”. Tim Finlay, brites development officer, commented: “We are delighted that brites have been chosen as the fuel of choice to heat The Little Rays. Wood pellets are an extremely efficient and cost-effective alternative to oil or gas and brites are now used in over 4,000 boilers, heating and providing hot water to a wide range of commercial customers – including hospitals, hotels and leisure centres. Our clients are enjoying many advantages from using locally and sustainably produced brites – particularly the security of supply and significant cost savings.”
