History of brites

With over 50 years of experience in the timber trade Northern Irish Company Balcas branched out into renewable energy in 2004, specifically biomass, to pioneer wood pellets branded brites for the UK and Irish markets.  Since then Balcas have continued to lead the industry in terms of quality, service, innovation and national presence. With a turnover of £55 million the Company has 550 direct employees; in addition, 300 people are engaged in forest harvesting and haulage.

Balcas installed two CHP and pellet manufacturing plants, the Enniskillen plant is in production since 2004 with a production capacity of 55,000 tonnes and the second plant in Invergordon, Scotland with a production capacity of 100,000 tonnes.  This makes Balcas the largest wood-pellet manufacturer in the British Isles. Both sites are self-sufficient in electricity, displacing energy previously generated from fossil fuels and permits Balcas to sell surplus electricity to the grid. brites our wood pellet brand are made from pure sawdust, a by-product from the sawmills on site and all wood used is sourced from sustainable forests approved by the Forestry Stewardship Council (FSC).
